We visited only a few Oligocene outcrops and for a few hours. We can only give you a limited vision of this fauna. A very good book: "Cenozoic Mollusca of New Zealand" was presented by A.G.Beu and P.A.Maxwell, drawings by R.C.Brazier, New Zealand Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Lower Hutt, 1990. A lot of shells can be identified with this publication. Also "Marwick's illustrations of New Zealand shells", edited by C.A.Fleming in 1966, Wellington can be of help. Despite these books it turned out to be very difficult to identify a lot of shells more precise then to the genus. We don't have access to reference collections for these outcrops. When your recognize one of our pictures, please let us know.
