The most profitable sites for Pliocene shells are near Antwerpen. By all kinds of construction works on the docs Pliocene layers are exposed, for example near Kallo. You mostly need authorisation to visit the premises.
To identify this fauna there are some excellent publications, written by Robert Marquet:
      1. De Pliocene Gastropodenfauna van Kallo, Belg.Ver. voor Paleontologie, Antwerpen 1998
      2. The Neogene Amphineura amd Bivalvia (Protobranchia and Pteriomorphia) from Kallo and Doel (Belgium), Paleontos No 2, 2002
      3. The Neogene Bivalvia (Heterodonta and Anomalodesmata) and Scaphopopda from Kallo and Doel (Belgium), Paleontos No 6, 2005
