Where to look for fossil shells ?
Fossil shells are to be found at many, many localities throughout the world. Every country has his own possibilities and problems. Generally speakingyou have to study some literature and geological maps. Then try to contact a geologist, palaeontologist or biologist in the country you chose to go to.You will be given good local advise. If you can't get hold of such a person, you look for disclosures at beaches, in riverbeds, in clay-, sand- or gravel-pits. Look also for natural erosion places on steep slopes, in gullies and ravines.
We show you a lot of pictures (about 1300) from our own collecting sites.Click on the country of your interest and on the next screen you will be able to select a specific site.
